The Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported that the occupiers were preparing to evacuate the Rosatom employees from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to Melitopol [Ukrainian city occupied by Russia - ed.]

Quote: "In order to avoid panic among the staff of the plant the preparation is being conducted covertly. The staff will be escorted by the units of the Russian National Guard that have left Melitopol for Enerhodar at 7:00."

Details: The employees of Rosatom disclosed that after the IAEA mission arrives at the plant, some of the employees would not be allowed at the ZNPP.

It is reported that the situation at the power plant is already critical because the occupiers are not letting in staff members responsible for fire safety.

Background:

  • On the morning of 1 September, an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission set off from the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia and headed for the nuclear power plant in the Russian-controlled town of Enerhodar, despite reports of intense shelling in the area.
  • Energoatom reported that operating unit 5 at ZNPP has been automatically shut down due to shelling by the Russians.
  • The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the actions of the Russian army are endangering the work of the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is heading for the occupied ZNPP.
  • Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko says that Russian occupiers may prevent the IAEA mission from visiting key facilities that need to be inspected on the territory of the occupied ZNPP.
  • The IAEA mission, which is heading for the ZNPP, has entered the "grey zone" near Enerhodar.
