The Russian Federation explained the explosions at the airbase in Crimea as a "fire safety violation"

1 Fire safety violation’ is what Russia is calling the main reason for the explosion of ammunition at the Saky airbase in occupied Crimea.

Quote: "The main cause of the explosion of several rounds of ammunition at the Saky airbase is considered to be a fire safety violation. There are no signs, evidence or indications of an intentional strike on ammunition for the purpose of detonation."
Details: Earlier, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation reported the detonation of several rounds of ammunition on the territory of the Saky airbase, located in Novofedorivka in Russian-occupied Crimea.
According to the Russian department of defence, the aircraft were not damaged as a result of the explosion.
The Saky military airbase near the village of Novofedorivka is used by the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation for its aircraft – aeroplanes and helicopters, including naval aircraft. There is also a ground-based aviation test training complex for practising the take-off and landing of naval aircraft.
