Oleksiy Danilov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, emphasises that the holding of "referendums" in the temporarily occupied territories can only be fake news.

Details: The Secretary of the National Security Council stated that Russia does not have the resources to create even the appearance of holding so-called "referendums" within the temporarily occupied territories.
Quote from Danilov: "The Russian Federation lacks collaborators. Within the temporarily occupied territories, a Russian puppet leader [sometimes referred to as a "Gauleiter", using terminology from Nazi Germany] is unable to form governing bodies. The holding of any "referendums" is possible only as ‘fake news’."
Background:
- In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts, the invaders are trying to recruit collaborators and puppet leaders who would oversee the holding of illegal "referendums" on the supposed matter of accession to Russia. The Ukrainian resistance movement is trying to identify various collaborators. The civilian population is also resisting the occupiers in every possible way.
- According to Operational Command Pivden (South), Russians forces began preparations for "referendums" in the occupied territories at the beginning of the occupation, but they failed each time to summon up enough of an electorate.
- The National Resistance Centre earlier reported that the Russian occupiers want to schedule the so-called "referendums" to coincide with the Russian "unified voting day" on 11 September.
- On 7 August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if so-called "referendums" are held in the occupied territories in southern Ukraine, this will foreclose the possibility of future negotiations with Ukraine.
