Ukraine waiting for the next package of EU sanctions against Russia in the fall – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
Oleksii Pavlysh – TUESDAY, 9 AUGUST, 09:40
Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, expects the next package of EU sanctions against Russia in the fall, after the resumption of the active political season in the EU.
He said this on air of the 24/7 national newscast, Ukrinform reports.
"Now, in August, there is such a pause in the EU. This does not mean that our partners have completely turned off and the work has stopped, but we expect the next package of sanctions soon in the fall, after the resumption of the active political season in the European Union," Kuleba said.
The minister did not comment on the details of the new package of sanctions, emphasising that Ukraine has a "clear understanding of what it offers to partners and what it wants to see there."
"We have already actively worked with the countries, our friends in the European Union, so that they make appropriate proposals. Next, there will be a negotiation process that will result in a package," Kuleba added.
Background:
- On 26 July, the European Council decided to extend restrictive measures against certain sectors of the Russian economy for six months, until 31 January, 2023.
- Since 24 February, the EU has adopted a series of unprecedented and tough sanction packages in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
- The seventh, and most recent round of sanctions since the beginning of the full-scale war was introduced by the EU in July. The sanctions include a ban on the purchase, import, direct or indirect transfer of gold from the Russian Federation, including through third countries. The ban also extended to jewellery.
