Quote: "Given the understandable level of public attention, we consider it necessary to once again appeal to all those who consider their work to be in any way related to information or who considers themselves a public figure with a sizeable audience that trusts their judgement.
We are calling on everyone to refrain from embellishing existing information and from casting judgement on the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukraine’s Defence Forces more generally.
We remind everyone that only the military command has a full grasp of all available information regarding the situation on the front. Therefore, only military officials are entitled to share this information."
Details: The General Staff has also stressed that any "secondary interpretations on the strategic and operational situation on the front", "haphazard use of military terminology" and "attempts to make unsubstantiated forecasts" are "unacceptable".
Quote: "It is time to acknowledge that imaginary victories do not bring the real victory closer, which all the people of Ukraine are fighting for today; they only delay it. How soon our victory will come depends on each and every one of us!"
Background:
- On 29 August, the Kakhovka Task Force reported that Ukrainian forces have destroyed the majority of large bridges near Kherson and breached the Russian forces’ first line of defence in Kherson Oblast.
- The Ukrainian government called on residents of the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine to evacuate.
- Mykhailo Podoliak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, called upon bloggers and politicians not to make any hasty sensational announcements concerning the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian forces on the Southern front but to wait for official reports of the relevant authorities instead.
Journalists fight on their own frontline.
