Russian Foreign Ministry says "the era of cooperation with the West is over"
EUROPEAN PRAVDA — WEDNESDAY, 3 AUGUST 2022, 20:02
Alexey Drobinin, Director of the Foreign Policy Planning Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, believes that the era of Russian cooperation with the West is over, and it is time to get rid of illusions and realise that there will be no return to the situation before 24 February in relations with Europe and the USA.
As European Pravda reports, Drobinin expressed this opinion in an article for Mezhdunarodnaya zhizn [International Life] magazine, which was shared by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Regardless of the duration and outcome [of the war in Ukraine], it can already be stated that the thirty-year era of generally constructive, albeit not problem-free, cooperation with the West is irrevocably over," the article says.
According to Drobinin, now there is an opportunity for the Russian authorities to finally get rid of illusions and go "beyond the ‘friendly absorption’ paradigm that has been reproduced by Western colleagues since 1992".
"It is clear that there will be no return to the situation before 24 February in relations with the countries of North America and Europe... Russia has entered an acute phase of single combat with an aggressive alliance of unfriendly states led by the USA. The enemy's goal is to inflict a strategic defeat on our country, eliminating it as a geopolitical competitor," he adds.
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, recently said that Moscow may break off diplomatic relations with the United States if Russia is recognised as a state sponsor of terrorism.
