Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany tells Minister President of Saxony that he is no longer expected in Ukraine
EUROPEAN PRAVDA – SUNDAY, 28 AUGUST, 2022, 10:19
Andrii Melnyk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, said that the invitation extended to Minister President of Saxony Michael Kretschmer to visit Ukraine has been retracted, after his calls to seek a truce in the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.
As European Pravda reports, Melnyk said this on his Twitter, responding to Krechmer's statements in the media.
Last week on the German television channel ZDF, the Minister President of Saxony stated his opinion that "the war must be frozen, that an armistice and negotiations are needed to end the war" – and that allegedly, this is spoken about too little in the public sphere.
He called Russia's invasion of Ukraine a heinous crime and said he fully agreed that Russia should not win this war, but that we should not try to decide the outcome of the war on the battlefield, "because it could have very bad consequences for all of us," and that it is important to use diplomatic mechanisms, "even when you have completely different positions and you are enemies."
"With your absurd rhetoric about freezing the war, you play along with Putin and fuel Russian aggression. I invited you to Ukraine. Now this invitation has been cancelled. Your visit is unwanted. Period," Melnyk responded.
Earlier, the ambassador sharply responded to politicians of the left wing of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany, who called on lawmakers to stop providing Ukraine with weapons and push it to negotiations.
Mykhailo Podoliak, the advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, suggested that all those who call on the German government to stop helping Ukraine should come to Bucha, and try to explain their position to the families of those who had been tortured.
Conversely, a member of the Bundestag from the Green party recently took the position that additional arms supplies to Ukraine can speed up the end of the war.
