Russians are planning to involve North Korean workers in rebuilding the damaged or destroyed facilities in the occupied part of Donbas.
Source: Marat Khusnulin, deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, cited by Kremlin-aligned information agency RIA Novosti
Quote: "Builders from the Korean People’s Democratic Republic turned to us with the proposition (to rebuild Donbas). It must be said that North Korean workers are very productive, they work in our country, we know them. They know how to work. And if there are no legal problems, I think it will be possible".
Details: Khusnulin remarked that these workmen "correspond to our expenditures, our estimate".
Background:
- Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote a letter to Kim Jong-Un, the leader of North Korea, that the two countries will "expand multilateral and constructive bilateral relations through joint efforts".
- In July, Denis Pushilin, the Kremlin-appointed leader of the separatist militants in the temporarily occupied region of Donetsk, claimed that North Korea recognized the "statehood" of the occupied regions of the Ukrainian territory.
