The Russian invaders are planning to hold a show trial of the captured defenders of Azovstal in temporarily occupied Mariupol on 24 August, Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Source: Report by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine
Quote: "For this purpose, the surviving premises of the Mariupol Chamber Philharmonic Hall are being urgently re-equipped. Iron cages are being installed on the Philharmonic Hall stage, in which the Ukrainian defenders will be held. Several new temporary structures are also being erected next to the building."
Details: The invaders are also bringing specially trained "witnesses" and representatives of their "media" to the city.
The Intelligence Directora has not ruled out that the Russians may launch a pinpoint missile strike on the premises. If they do this, they will try to shift the blame for the crime to Ukraine.
Background:
- On 12 August, Ukraine issued an appeal to world leaders and international organisations to prevent the illegal trial of Ukrainian defenders in Mariupol and to visit prisoners in Olenivka.
