"There will be a lot of noise": Charity foundation buys satellite with money raised by Ukrainians

The Serhiy Prytula Foundation, a Ukrainian charitable foundation fundraising for Ukraine’s military and humanitarian needs, has raised 600 million hryvnias [approximately $16 million - ed.] to purchase access to a database of satellite images for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Quote: "Ukrainians, you rock. We bought a satellite.

This isn’t just one satellite. It gives us access to the entire database of ISI satellite images, and we have been able to purchase access for more than a year.

From now on, our army will be able to access high-quality satellite images as quickly as possible, which will help us plan timely operations. There will be a lot of noise."

Details: Serhiy Prytula, founder of the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, notes that "ICEYE owns the most developed radar satellite imaging technology in the world as of today. This agreement is a significant step in responding to the Government of Ukraine’s urgent request for critical earth observation data and it will greatly benefit our Armed Forces."

Press release from the Serhiy Prytula Foundation also says that "ICEYE delivers proven and reliable Earth Observation solutions." Moreover, unlike traditional Earth observation satellites, "ICEYE’s small radar imaging satellites can form high-resolution images of areas of the Earth in daylight, at night, and through cloud cover."

Background: This deal was closed with the funds raised by the People’s Bayraktar project 22-24 June 2022 by the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation in cooperation with blogger Ihor Lachenkov.

The Baykar company decided to donate three Bayraktar TB-2 UAVs for free. This allowed us to use the saved 600 million UAH (17 million USD) to purchase the satellite.
