Hero of Ukraine describes how 6 Kalibr cruise missiles were shot down in 3 minutes
VALENTYNA ROMANENKO – WEDNESDAY, 17 AUGUST 2022, 15:55
The anti-aircraft missile battalion of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, led by Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Shumakov, has hit more than 30 Russian air targets.
Source: Armiia Inform
Details: It is reported that recently this battalion successfully fired on six targets simultaneously. In three minutes of combat action, six Russian Kalibr cruise missiles were dispatched to the same place as some Ukrainian border guards once indicated [to the infamous Russian warship that threatened Zmiinyi (Snake) Island and was told to "go f**k itself"].
Quote: "The most vivid memory is shooting at six rockets at once. What happened was that the enemy Kalibr cruise missiles changed their trajectory abruptly, and six targets came into our division’s range.
It was unexpected, but everyone got to work and worked smoothly and professionally. It all happened literally within 2-3 minutes. When we realised that it was a massive attack and that, thank God, we had managed to repel it with no casualties or losses, and everything had happened the way it was supposed to happen – these emotions are seared into my memory.
The enemy had launched seven Kalibr cruise missiles in different directions, and we hit six of them.
So far our battalion has hit more than 30 air targets in total."
Details: According to Shumakov, the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Air Force of Ukraine are now dealing with more complex high-speed targets. The Russians are changing their tactics by changing the missile flight altitude and routes, and are actively manoeuvring.
However, the Ukrainian anti-aircraft forces manage to find their weak spots. Apart from that, motivation is an important factor which the Russian aggressor lacks.
Background: On 5 August 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Shumakov, the commander of the anti-aircraft missile battalion, was given the title of Hero of Ukraine and awarded the order of the Golden Star ("Zolota Zirka") for his exceptional courage and considerable contribution to the protection of Ukraine’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
