More than 40% of Ukrainian schools are provided with shelters. The educational institutions of Mykolaiv Oblast are the worst provided with shelters. There, only 16% of educational institutions are equipped with protective structures.
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi reported about this during a meeting with Education Minister Serhii Shkarlet, with participation of heads of Oblast Military Administrations and the public.
The best situation is in the Lviv Oblast, where 83% of institutions are ready to start offline studying.
In Kyiv, 740 out of 1,063 schools were recommended for opening, namely - 68%.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs officers, together with teachers, inspect shelters in educational institutions. According to the Ministry of internal affairs, during this period, more than 80% of educational institutions were checked, namely 21,000 objects.
"The main role in this process is played by local authorities because they are responsible for preparation. We have assigned a lifeguard to each educational institution in the regions – this is a specific employee who will also be responsible for ensuring the institution is ready for the new academic year", Monastyrskyi says.
First Lady Olena Zelenska visited one of the Lviv lyceums, where a bomb shelter was equipped.
"We must realise that even with the best air defence systems, a bomb shelter is now a must-have for every Ukrainian kindergarten, school and institute. Just as it has been in Israel for many years, where every student knows where to run in the event of an air alarm", she says.
Olena Zelenska advises parents who have chosen offline education for their children to visit the school in person and assess the safety conditions.
"Follow the path that your children will follow in case of anxiety. Check everything out", she says.
Recall that 5% of Ukrainian teachers are now abroad.
