Another 6 ships granted permission to export grain from Ukrainian ports

Six ships have been granted permissions to export grain from Ukrainian ports.

Details: As part of the UN’s Black Sea grain initiative, the Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) has allowed six ships that had arrived for inspection to pass through the maritime humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea. These ships will be loaded with Ukrainian grain, which has been unable to leave Ukrainian ports since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Two of these vessels, MV Kafkam and MV Zelek Star, have already been inspected in the Sea of Marmara and have been allowed to sail for the port of Chornomorsk in Odesa Oblast for loading.

On 15 August, the remaining four ships – MV Great Arsenal, MV Zumrut Ana, MV Ocean S, MV Kubrosliy – will also be inspected. If the inspection is successful, they will also sail for Chornomorsk.

In addition, another ship, MV Star Laura, passed its inspection and received permission to sail for Ukraine on Sunday, 14 August. On Saturday, 13 August, MV Rahmi Yagci also successfully passed its inspection.

According to the procedures put in place by the JCC, all parties in charge of carrying out the inspections of ships sailing for Ukraine have to coordinate their actions with the relevant military and other authorities of their countries. The JCC said that this was a necessary step "to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels as part of the Black Sea grain initiative".

Members of the JCC stressed that they will closely monitor the advance of ships carrying Ukrainian grain via the maritime humanitarian corridor.

Background: More than 23,000 tonnes of wheat were loaded onto the bulk carrier Brave Commander on 14 August. The ship is now staying in the port of Pivdennyi and being prepared for shipment to Ethiopia.
