Ukraine has resumed the transit of Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the southern section of the Druzhba pipeline.

Quote from Naftogaz: "On 4 August, Ukrtransnafta [a company established by the Ukrainian government in June 2001 to manage oil transmission through the Ukrainian pipeline network - ed.] was forced to halt Russia’s oil transit via the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba oil pipeline due to the failure of Transneft [a Russian state-controlled transmission pipeline company - ed.] to make the advance payment for the oil transit."

Details: Naftogaz has reported that the Hungarian multinational oil and gas company, MOL, has now paid for the transit of Russian oil. As a result, Ukrtransnafta resumed the flow of Russian oil via the Ukrainian section of the pipeline on 10 August.

Meanwhile, Ukrtransnafta is yet to receive the transit fee payment – or any information regarding payment – from the Czech Republic.

"Ukrtransnafta has not received any official letters from Transneft informing that Mero, the company operating the section of the Druzhba pipeline in the Czech Republic, would pay transit fees for the oil flows to that country," Naftogaz said.

On Thursday, 11 August, the chairman of Mero’s board said that the supply of oil to the Czech Republic via the Druzhba pipeline might resume as early as Friday or Saturday of the same week.

Earlier: Russian oil company Transneft has said that Ukraine had halted the transit of Russian oil via the southern section of the Druzhba oil pipeline due to sanctions, which made it impossible to pay for transit services.
