Ex "minister of the DPR" convicted to 3.6 years in prison

A court in Moscow convicted Aleksandr Timofeev (nickname "Tashkent"), the former "Minister of Taxes and Fees of the Donetsk People’s Republic", to 3.6 years of medium-security penal colony.

Details: Timofeev was found guilty of "attempted large scale fraud". For $5 million, he and Ihor Sosnovskyi, the ex-advisor of Mykola Azarov, a fugitive ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine, promised to stop the criminal prosecution of Serhii Shpak, ex-head of Railtransholding. Sosnovskyi, who cooperated with the investigation, was released on probation.
When sentencing Timofeev, the court took into consideration the fact that he was a "combat veteran, has the Hero of DPR title and suffered combat injuries".
Background:
- Alexander Timofeev, nicknamed "Tashkent", joined the "DPR" militants in the spring of 2014 and "fought" on their side for the Donetsk airport.
- On September 23, 2017, there was an attempted murder of him in Donetsk.
- There was information that Timofeev allegedly wanted to become the head of the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk Oblast.
