Russia convenes UN Security Council over situation at ZNPP [Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant]: lies about shelling of Ukraine

The Russian Federation asked for the UN Security Council meeting to be held on 11 August, lying about the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia NPP by Ukrainian troops.

"I confirm. We submitted a request for a meeting due to the Ukrainian shelling of the ZNPP," Dmitry Polyansky, the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the UN, on his Telegram.

He stated that "Ukrainian provocations should not be hidden from the general public."

Earlier, a source in the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN stated "Interfax" that on 11 August, Russia asked for the UN Security Council meeting.

As another source clarified, the Russian side also invited the participation of IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi as a speaker.

Reminder: On August 6, the European Union condemned Russia's military actions in the area around the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

In a telephone conversation with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry and nuclear fuel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova expressed concern about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and called for the admission of IAEA experts to invite the station.
