Reminder:
- Russia attacked Ukraine on 24 February. Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin expected to take Kyiv and Ukraine in just a few days. This was hinted at in every possible way by the Russian leadership, confirmed by various intelligence agencies, and also reported by captured Russian soldiers who had already been left without food in early March, because they had been given dry rations for only a few days.
- In early April, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, expressed hope that the war in Ukraine would end "in the coming days or in the near future" due to Russia achieving its goals, or through negotiations.
- In early June, Peskov said that the war in Ukraine will end when the Russian Federation fulfils all the goals of the so-called "special operation" set by Putin.
Since the beginning of a full-scale war, the Russian army has lost about 36,200 soldiers killed in Ukraine.
