Threat of Russian air and missile strikes returns Sunday night
VALENTYNA ROMANENKO – SUNDAY, 3 JULY 2022, 23:47
On the evening of Sunday, 3 July, air raid sirens were sounded in many of Ukraine’s oblasts as Russian planes circled the perimeter of Ukraine’s borders, threatening new missile strikes on the country.
Source: Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on air during the 24/7 national joint newscast and in a comment for Ukrainska Pravda
Quote: "Air raid sirens have just been sounded across the central and eastern regions of Ukraine…This time, Russian planes carrying the infamous X-22 missiles took off from the Shaikovka airfield [in the Kaluha Oblast of the Russian Federation - ed.], circled the perimeter of Ukraine and conducted some manoeuvres around Crimea, threatening new strikes on Ukraine. Fortunately, this time they did not strike."
Details: Ihnat emphasised that citizens should never ignore the air raid sirens. The X-type missiles Russia is currently using in many of its attacks are hypersonic, long-range cruise missiles, which are very difficult to intercept, meaning that they are particularly dangerous.
More details: According to the Air Force spokesman, anti-aircraft missile units of the Ukrainian Air Force shot down two Russian drones on Sunday, 3 July (coincidentally, 3 July is celebrated as the Day of Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops of the Ukrainian Air Force).
