Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports on the number of Ukrainian children deported to Russia
Viktoriia Andrieieva, Ukrainska Pravda.Zhyttia — FRIDAY, 29 JULY 2022
The National Information Bureau has registered more than 5,600 applications regarding the deportation of children to Russia.
However, the real number may be higher, Kateryna Pavlichenko, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, noted at a briefing at the Ukraine Media Centre on 29 July.
"According to the data of the National Information Bureau, more than 5,600 children who were deported to the aggressor country have already been identified. However, we understand that the real number is actually higher," she said.
The official noted that hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were forcibly deported to Russia. The government is currently developing a mechanism for their return.
Pavlichenko added that if you lose contact with a loved one who has gone abroad, you should contact the law enforcement officers:
- dial 102 in Ukraine;
- dial 112 if you are abroad.
She also advised people to contact the nearest police station.
All possible information must be provided to law enforcement officers:
- when was the last time you spoke;
- where did you see each other for the last time;
- place of stay (if the person has gone abroad).
The return of children from the territory of Russia is an extremely difficult task. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, less than 50 Ukrainian minors have returned.
