Quote: "I once again remind everyone that when something is prohibited, there are reasons for this. Two people were blown up by a mine in Koblevo while swimming, despite the current ban [on swimming]."
Background:
- At the end of June, Hennadii Trukhanov, Mayor of Odesa, promised to open some of Odesa beaches for swimming and recreation after the isntallation of special nets [to ensure that naval mines do not drift close to the shore and the area where people are swimming - ed.].
- A person was killed on the beach in Hrybivka, in Odesa Oblast, when a mine exploded in the water.
- On 5 July, the Odesa Oblast Military Administration and the Odesa City Council decided not to open the beaches in Odesa Oblast this summer season due to the threat of Russian missile strikes on crowds of people likely to gather on the beaches.
- A man was blown up by a mine while swimming in the sea on a beach in Odesa Oblast on 15 July.
