A pilot awarded ‘Hero of Ukraine’ has died in the war

On 26 July, 28-year old Oleksandr Kukurba, military pilot and ‘Hero of Ukraine’ from Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, died in combat against the occupiers.

Quote: "We are sad to report that on 26 July 2022, while defending the Ukrainian sky, Oleksandr Vasylovych Kukurba, Ukrainian serviceman, major, head of intelligence of the 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , ‘Hero of Ukraine’, died in combat with the occupiers. Oleksandr was born in 1994 in the village of Verkhnii Verbizh of Nyzhnii Verbizh territorial hromada of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast".
Details: 27-29 July have been announced as days of mourning in Nyzhnii Verbizh hromada.
Kukurba has received the ‘Hero of Ukraine’ title and a ‘Zolota Zirka’ (‘Gold Star’) medal (14 April 2022) for personal bravery and heroism shown while defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

On 22 March he was awarded the 3rd degree Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Order, and on 6 July, the 2nd degree Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Order for personal bravery and selfless actions shown while defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for faithfulness to the military oath.
