Details: Zelenskyy informed the American congressmen about the large number of missile strikes carried out on Saturday by the Russian troops on Ukraine, in particular on the territory of the port of Odesa. He emphasised that this happened less than a day after the agreements reached in Istanbul regarding the export of Ukrainian grain.

Zelensky's quote: "This proves only one thing: no matter what Russia says and promises, it will find ways not to implement it. Geopolitically, with weapons, bloodily or not, but it has several vectors, as it always acts."

More details: The President emphasised that this is why Ukraine cannot be a country where there is a "frozen" war. According to him, it is extremely necessary for our state to be able to take appropriate steps to retake the occupied Ukrainian territories.

Zelenskyy also called on Ukraine's partners, in particular the United States, to join the Fast Recovery Plan for the rapid recovery from the destruction of Ukraine's residential, educational, and medical infrastructure.

Background :

  • Russian troops hit the Odesa sea port with missiles - 2 missiles were shot down by the air defence forces, and 2 more hit the port's infrastructure facilities.
  • The day before, on 22 July, an agreement was signed in Istanbul to unblock Ukrainian ports for the export of grain.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the strikes on Odesa. According to a comment by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, Ukraine has called on the UN and Turkey to ensure that Russia complies with its obligations under the terms of the safe functioning of the grain corridor.
