Details: Reportedly, the kidnappings happened on Sunday and Monday 17-18 July. Those kidnapped were Ihor Kvashnin, Head of Environmental Protection Service of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Serhii Pykhtin, Deputy Head of Decontamination and Radioactive Waste Management Department, and Olena Riabtseva, Master of the Decontamination Department.
Currently, the location of the abducted is unknown.
Quote: "This is another attempt by the invaders to destabilise the operation of Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which has been under Russian occupation since March."
Previously: On Monday, Dmytro Orlov, Mayor of Enerhodar, where the nuclear power plant is located, reported that nine Russian servicemen from the "guard" of the Zaporizhzhya NPP were hospitalised with injuries. Some Russian soldiers have been reported dead.
Background :
- On 4 March, Russian troops seized the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They now control the administrative buildings and entry to the station.
- In mid-March, the occupiers detonated ammunition at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, near the destroyed training centre and power unit No.1.
- Around 500 Russian military personnel remain at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, as well as a large amount of Russian military equipment and explosives. As a result, Ukraine cannot entirely fulfil the safety guarantees given to its own citizens and the world, although it still maintains control over the work of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
