The puppet government appointed by the occupiers in Zaporizhzhia Oblast wants to hold a so-called "referendum on joining the Russian Federation" at the beginning of autumn.
Source: Russian Interfax with reference to Yevhen Balytskyi, the collaborator and so-called head of the temporary administration of the region
Quote from Balytskyi: "I, as the head of the military-civil administration of the Zaporizhzhia oblast, have decided to hold a referendum, which will take place in early autumn."
Details: According to the puppet governor of the occupiers, the mechanisms for voting are now being "worked out."
And the so-called referendum itself will supposedly determine "what the people of Zaporizhzhia Oblast want and how they want to live."
Background:
- On 21 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the pseudo-republics "DPR" [self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic] and "LPR" [self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic].
- On 24 February, Russia attacked Ukraine.
- On 1 June, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, stated that decisions related to the future of Luhansk, Donetsk, as well as Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts of Ukraine will allegedly be made by the residents of these regions themselves.
