Quote: "Regarding mandatory registration, there is such a rule that during a period of martial law, DNA samples are taken from military personnel and from employees of law enforcement organisations. That is, from those representatives of the professions among which we have the greatest losses due to the aggression of the Russian Federation."
Details: The introduction is related to the adoption of the law on the state registration of human genomic information.
According to the law, there are two types of such registration: mandatory and voluntary. Mandatory, as in the case of the military and law enforcement officers, is carried out at the expense of the state. And voluntary registration, which can be completed by all willing citizens of Ukraine and foreigners, and which must be paid for.
Bondarenko explained that the data of military personnel are not immediately entered into the DNA register. They are kept in the personal files of soldiers and are taken only when there is a need to conduct an examination.
Quote: "Given the losses we have today, it is necessary to identify all our citizens killed as a result of armed aggression. This applies to both military personnel and civilians who will come under fire, as, for example, in the city of Chasiv Yar."
Background: The US State Department has recommended that Americans who decide to go to Ukraine during the war make a will before their trip, submit DNA samples and express their wishes regarding burial.
