As of Tuesday evening, 16 vessels had already passed through the mouth of Bystre to load Ukrainian grain – at such rates it is expected that traffic jams in the Danube Delta will disappear within a week.

More than 90 ships are currently waiting for their turn to enter the Ukrainian ports at the Sulina Canal raid. A total of 135 vessels are on the roadway of the Romanian Sulina Canal.
As the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yuriy Vaskov said, currently the capacity and organisation of work at Sulin make it possible to receive only 4 ships, if necessary, at least 8 ships per day. However, the government is negotiating with Romanian colleagues and representatives of the European Commission to increase the number of crossings through the Sulin channel.
"Under these conditions and the availability of a route through the mouth of Bystre, we expect that within a week the congestion of ships on the route will be eliminated and we will be able to increase the monthly export of grain by 500 thousand tons," Vaskov said.
In addition, at the request of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine joined the organisation of transportation by civilian ships.
Reminder:
- The Russian military fleet is blocking sea routes to Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea coast, making it impossible to safely transport grain to other countries. As a result, agro exporters had to reorient themselves to river ports and overland routes – motor vehicles and railways.
- After the liberation of the Zmiiny island in the Odesa region from the occupiers by the Ukrainian military, navigation through the Danube-Black Sea canal was restored. Until now, ships carrying cargo in Ukrainian Danube ports had to use a single transport route – the Sulina canal, which is located on the territory of Romania.
- Together, this capacity is currently insufficient to fully replace seaports. In June, it was possible to export 2.5 million tons of products through the existing routes, while the monthly need for the export of such products is 8 million tons.
