No Russian assault groups to the north of Ukraine – State Border Guards
UKRAINSKA PRAVDA – MONDAY, 11 JULY 2022, 16:32
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has not observed the formation of any assault groups on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, nor in the Bryansk and Kursk oblasts of the Russian Federation [near the Russian-Ukrainian border - ed.].
Source: Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a press briefing
Quote from Demchenko: "We do not see the formation of assault groups which might launch an offensive on Ukraine on the borders of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts."
Details: At the same time, militarised units of the Russian and Belarusian Armed Forces remain near the Russian-Ukrainian and the Belarusian-Ukrainian borders respectively in order to pin down the Armed Forces of Ukraine and prevent Ukrainian troops from being deployed on other, more active, fronts.
Demchenko added that Russia is actively conducting electronic warfare and continues shelling Ukrainian cities. In particular, border-adjacent territories of Ukraine were shelled around 130 times in the last week alone.
Background:
- On the night of 10-11 July, a Russian A-50 long-range radar tracking aircraft was circling over Belarus, helping fighter jets to aim at targets in Ukraine.
- In June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a meeting of the Commander-in-Chief’s office regarding the possible threat of a new invasion by Belarus, at which he issued orders to conduct a readiness check in four oblasts.
