Petro Andriushchenko, the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, is calling on Ukrainians to immediately leave occupied Mariupol for their own safety.
Source: Andriushchenko gave several reasons for leaving the occupied city right now:
- It is technically impossible to restore the city's infrastructure before winter. There will be problems with water, electricity and gas in some areas.
- The healthcare system will not be working - there are practically no specialist doctors, such as paediatricians, mammographers or cancer specialists, left in the area, and Russia is having problems getting medical equipment due to the sanctions.
- Security - the occupiers’ police do not protect Ukrainians; they work for the occupiers and in collusion with criminals.
- An evacuation channel is currently open in Zaporizhzhia, which can be shut down.
- During the counteroffensive by the Armed Forces, people may be injured, since they are used as a human shield by the Russians, who locate warehouses near civilian buildings.
- The occupation authorities plan to start "mobilising" everyone in Mariupol without exception in the autumn.
