Quote: "Deputy Fedorov introduced a project into the State Duma concerning the cancellation of the USSR State Council Decree ‘On Recognition of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania.’"
Reminder: The process of Lithuania’s exit from the USSR was painful and had victims among civilians as Soviet armed forces tried to subdue the mass movement towards independence.
At the same time, after the August Coup interior problems in Russia worsened critically. On 6 September 1991 at the USSR State Council (government body created at V Extraordinary Congress of People’s Deputies) meeting presided by Mikhail Gorbachev the independence of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia was recognized.
Previously: Lithuania is in favour of harshest EU sanctions against Russia, supports Ukraine’s decision to join the EU and provides military support in the confrontation with Russia. In particular, at the end of April Ukraine received heavy mortars.
Lithuania also suggested creating a naval coalition for lifting the Russian blockade and resuming the export of Ukrainian grain.
