Lukashenko also announced that the state of the military equipment will be inspected.

On 2 June, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Belarus has begun planting mines along its roads and bridges near the Ukrainian border.

Background:

  • Belarusian Armed Forces are conducting reconnaissance operations and deploying additional units in areas near the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
  • According to British intelligence, Lukashenko is trying to avoid direct involvement in the war in Ukraine.
  • At the same time, Belarus has deployed "special operations forces" near the border with Ukraine; this was the response of the General Staff of the Republic of Belarus to the "threat" posed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
  • The Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to maintain a significant presence at the Belarusian border instead of transferring troops to reinforce the positions in the east of Ukraine. In addition, Russian forces have intensified their activity in the Transnistria region in Moldova.
