Zelenskyy: Obtaining EU membership candidate status is like a betrothal

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has likened Ukraine's obtaining candidate status for European Union membership to a betrothal.

Quote from Zelensky: "On a human, not a political level, receiving candidate status is like getting engaged. It is a crucial step in the relations between Ukraine and the EU. It is not mere friendship or sympathy, but a firm and official intention to join together and become one in the future. In the very near future."
Details: According to Zelenskyy, from now on, we [Ukraine - ed.] are not a "third country." Ukraine will be able to join in with the work of individual bodies and new EU programmes.
The government has also developed a roadmap for implementing EU legislation, rules, and regulations in all spheres of life. In addition, the Parliament has to approve a number of European integration laws.
The President stressed that Ukraine is implementing reforms according to its own vision, as it is striving not just to join, but to return to the European family.
Background: European Union leaders approved the decision to grant candidate status for membership of the EU to Ukraine and Moldova at a summit in Brussels on 23 June.
