Ukraine implements visa regime with Russia – Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelensykk has announced that, from 1 July 2022, Ukraine will be implementing an entry visa regime for citizens of the Russian Federation.

Quote: "Ukraine is implementing a visa regime for Russian citizens.
And today (17 June – ed.) the Chamber of Ministers ought to make this important decision – to implement the Resolution on "Termination of the Decree between the Ukrainian and Russian Governments on visa-free trips of the Ukrainian and Russian citizens and application of some international treaties between Ukraine and Russia".
According to the planned decision of the Chamber of Ministers, from 1 July 2022, an entry visa regime for Russian citizens will be implemented in Ukraine.
Details: The President added that this matter was being pursued in order to "prevent unprecedented threats to the national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine".
According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, even if a Russian wants to go to Ukraine from Russia, they’ll have to go to the visa centre; if they’re abroad, they must go to the Ukrainian embassy or to the visa centre in order to obtain an entry visa.
Background:
- On 26 May, President Zelenskyy approved the petition on the implementation of a visa regime for Russian citizens in Ukraine and ordered Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to follow up on this matter.
