French President Emmanuel Macron said that Western countries had agreed not to provide Ukraine with certain weapons due to fears of getting involved in the war against Russia.

According to European Pravda, Emmanuel Macron made these statements in an interview with journalists in Kyiv on Thursday, June 16.

"We are helping Ukraine to defend itself, but we are not entering the war against Russia. Thus, it has been agreed not to supply certain weapons including assault aircrafts or tanks and President Zelenskyy is aware of this agreement," he said.

The French President added that the West has instead provided Ukraine with ammunition and "certain types of equipment".

"And now [we] have also started to supply [Ukraine] with CAESARs (self-propelled artillery). This will allow Ukraine to become more mobile and destroy the enemy from a distance," Macron said.

In May, the media learned from sources that the White House had been negotiating with Ukraine on restrictions on the use of American weapons, particularly against targets located deep within Russia.

At the same time, US President Joe Biden stated that the United States did not plan to provide Ukraine with missile systems capable of hitting targets in Russia.

These reports came amid discussions on the supply of long-range systems to Ukraine, especially rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Ultimately however, the United States approved the transfer of four HIMARS MLRS to Ukraine, which are due to arrive by the end of June.
