Germany has supported Ukraine and Ukrainians since the beginning of Russia's aggressive war - in particular, Germany has already accepted 800,000 Ukrainian refugees, and it is providing weapons and will continue to do so.

This was stated by Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, at a press conference in Kyiv on 16 June, writes European Pravda.

"Germany has sided with Ukraine from day one. We support Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are supporting it financially with large sums of money, and in humanitarian terms by accepting 800,000 refugees into Germany and offering them protection and shelter," said Olaf Scholz.

He added that 135,000 Ukrainian children are now attending German schools.

"Germany has also broken its long-standing state tradition - we have begun to supply Ukraine with weapons, and we will continue to do so - as many as Ukraine needs," he said.

After a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, the leaders of Germany, Italy, Romania and France reportedly called for "immediate" EU candidate status for Ukraine.
