Quote from Saldo: "For me, this is a truly historic moment. I have always thought that we are one country and one people."
Details: The Kremlin propagandists showed Russian passports being given out.
Reference: From 2002 to 2012, Saldo was the mayor of Kherson (in 2008 he was recognised as the best mayor in Ukraine). He subsequently became a People's Deputy from the Party of Regions [a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine].
As a People's Deputy in January 2014, he voted for Yanukovych’s "dictatorial laws" against Maidan.
Background: On 11 June, the occupiers handed over the first Russian passports to locals in the occupied city of Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
