There are 37,000 women defending the country from the Russian occupiers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Also, more than a thousand of them have already become commanders, said First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska during the international conference "Women in Conflict" in Brussels.

"Most of our doctors are women. 50% of our entrepreneurs are women, and they are working to support the economy. There are 37,000 women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. More than 1,000 women have already become commanders," she added.

Zelenska also recalled the stories of Ukrainian women who have become symbols of the Ukrainian struggle.

"This is [the story of] Oksana, a nurse from Lysychansk. She continued to go to work and help those who suffered in war until she lost her legs when she was caught by an enemy mine. Oksana is a symbol of the thirst for life and the irresistible power of love," Zelenska said.

She also spoke about 15-year-old Liza Chernyshenko from Popasna, who, with gunshot wounds,  was able to drive four wounded people to safety.

Zelenska also mentioned Tetiana Blyzniak, who was feeding a baby in the Kyiv metro; her photo became the basis for the image of the Ukrainian "Madonna of the metro".

"There is the popular question: what’s your superpower? So, every woman can answer: my superpower is that I am Ukrainian! And this is no exaggeration. Our women are superheroes who are approaching victory every day of their lives," she said.
