Ukraine believes Germany to start meeting weapons supply pledges in June - Ambassador
European Pravda — SATURDAY, 11 JUNE 2022, 10:22
Andrii Melnyk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, said that Germany intends to deliver Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers to Ukraine around 22 June.
According to European Pravda, he said this in an interview with NV.
The ambassador noted that, despite its promises, Germany has not yet delivered a single heavy weapons unit to Ukraine.
"As of today, on the 105th day of the Russian war against Ukraine, no unit, and I say this one more time, no unit of heavy equipment - artillery, howitzers, infantry fighting vehicles, tanks - not one has been delivered to Ukraine," he said.
The ambassador said, however, that at least two promises of heavy weapons supplies are expected to be kept in the near future.
"Seven self-propelled howitzers that are to be handed over to us - we will receive these systems around 22 June," Melnyk said.
The Gepard [a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of German origin] is expected to be delivered later to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"This is also an old weapon - 30 units: 15 Gepards [will be delivered] by the end of July, another 15 - by the end of August. These are the only 2 decisions of all those announced by the German government to date, which are being implemented," he added.
The day before, Melnyk pointed out that in recent months, Germany has increased imports from Russia.
Spiegel reported earlier that despite Scholz's statements about increasing military aid to Ukraine, the country has not yet received a single German heavy weapons unit.
