Zaporizhzhia Military Administration: Immortal Regiment commemoration to take place in Melitopol

Russian occupation forces announced that they have organised an Immortal Regiment commemoration in Melitopol on 9 May. [The Immortal Regiment is a civil event staged in major cities in Russia every 9 May during the Victory Day celebrations.]

Quote from Zaporizhzhia Military Administration: "The occupiers are tearing down Ukrainian symbols from all buildings in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia Region. The occupation forces of the Russian Federation have also officially announced that on 9 May there will be an Immortal Regiment commemoration in Melitopol."
Details: Melitopol residents were warned that all motor vehicles would be banned from the city centre on Monday, 9 May.
Russian Guards and professional soldiers will take part in the commemoration.
Zaporizhzhia Military Administration noted that "Immortal Regiment commemorations will take place in cities and towns across the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Region."
Background:
- According to Ivan Fedoriv, Mayor of Melitopol, Russian occupiers are preparing a set of provocations during the 9 May Victory Day celebrations; the provocations might involve opening fire on civilians and will be blamed on the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Russian occupation forces are trying to deceive and coerce Ukrainians into celebrating Victory Day in the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia Region. For example, in the Russian-occupied city of Enerhodar, Russian troops are forcibly confiscating people’s documents and promising to return them if the person in question attends the 9 May celebration events.
