While there, the president convened a working meeting regarding the situation in Kharkiv Oblast and the city of Kharkiv.
Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, showed Zelenskyy the aftermath of Russian shelling. According to Kharkiv Oblast officials, 2,229 residential buildings have been destroyed in hostilities across the oblast and its administrative capital.
According to a video shared by the Presidential Office, President Zelenskyy stressed the importance of rebuilding civilian infrastructure. He said that the state government will support rebuilding efforts, but also urged the local government to look for European funding to support the construction of housing and other projects in the oblast.
The president noted that any new residential buildings must have bomb shelters.
Head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration informed Zelenskyy that 31% of Kharkiv Oblast currently remains under Russian occupation; 5% of its territory has been liberated from the Russian occupiers.
According to Syniehubov, due to ongoing shelling it is still impossible to inspect all of the liberated towns and villages, to clear the oblast of mines, and to begin renewing the oblast’s critical infrastructure.
"Wherever we can do this remotely, we are already working on it," he added.
