Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the occupiers have damaged 367 cultural heritage sites.
This was reported by Oleksandr Tkachenko, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy.
"Currently, we know about the complete destruction of 9 cultural heritage sites in the Donetsk, Kyiv, Sumy and Chernihiv regions. Other sites have suffered varying degrees of damage.
The condition of 23 [sites] remains unknown. After all, it is still difficult to obtain information from the temporarily occupied territories and places where active hostilities are taking place", he said.
The destruction of cultural facilities has already been recorded in 13 oblasts.
The Kharkiv region has suffered the most. 96 crimes [against culture] committed by the occupiers have been recorded there.
On the territory of Ukraine, the Russians are "fighting" with cultural centres, libraries, theatres, and so on. They have destroyed or damaged 74 such buildings.
The invaders are also destroying religious buildings, historical and cultural monuments, memorials and museums.
Oleksandr Tkachenko added that a fund will be set up in the near future to raise funds for the restoration of the Skovoroda Museum.
A museum of modern art by Ivan Marchuk will be created in Kyiv. It will be located in the former US Embassy building.
