Law enforcement officers have identified two Russian occupiers who were mocking Ukrainians in the Chernihiv region.

One of the Russian servicemen tried to rape a 16-year-old girl.

They also tortured her older brother, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.

Both have been informed that they are suspected of violating the laws and customs of war (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"According to the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces who mocked civilians during the occupation of part of the Chernihiv region have been identified," the statement said.

According to the investigation, a group of Russian servicemen ill-treated civilians in a settlement in the Chernihiv region.

During the occupation of the settlement in March 2022, the Russians settled in the house where the family lived - the 16-year-old girl, her brother and their grandmother.

One of the occupiers, a unit commander, repeatedly tried to rape the girl, subjecting her to physical violence and psychological abuse.

He beat and strangled the girl and threatened to kill her relatives and to gang-rape her.

The Russian soldier also kept the girl's brother in handcuffs in the yard of the house, refusing to let him wear outer clothing in the cold and repeatedly inflicting physical injuries on him.

Suspilne previously reported on the first case of sexual violence against a minor in Chernihiv Oblast.

"Other military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces involved in crimes against civilians are currently being identified", the Prosecutor General Office said.
