Russian-backed separatist militants in the so-called "DPR" (Donetsk People's Republic) and "LPR" (Luhansk People's Republic) want to hold a "referendum" on joining Russia if they occupy the entire territory of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.
Source: Denis Pushylin, Kremlin-appointed leader of the separatist militants in the temporarily occupied region of Donetsk, in a comment to Kremlin-aligned Russian news agency RIA Novosti
Quote from Pushylin: "The results of such a referendum are quite obvious, quite clear.
But it will be expedient to address them in practical terms after we reach the constitutional borders of the ‘Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics’.
There is a time for everything."
Background: Russian media reported that in May the Russians were preparing to hold "referendums" on the annexation of Donbas.
