Saturday, 21 May 2022, 17:16 – ILLIA KOLDOMASOV
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that 22 million tonnes of grain cannot be exported because of Russia’s blockade of the ports.
His words have been transmitted by Ukrinform.
Zelenskyy added that this issue could be solved militarily, and he is appealing to Ukraine’s international partners to provide the necessary weapons.
Reminder:
On 11 May, US President Joe Biden stated that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its blocking of Ukrainian ports could cause mass starvation around the world.
Up until 24 February, Ukraine and Russia supplied almost 30% of the world’s wheat; Ukraine was the world's fourth largest exporter of maize and the fifth largest exporter of wheat.
The UN World Food Programme buys about half of its wheat in Ukraine every year.
