President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the financial aid from Ukraine’s strategic partners is an investment in their own security, rather than a gift.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "I am always very honest about this: Ukraine’s monthly budget deficit currently stands at 5 billion dollars. To survive this war for freedom, we need fast and sufficient financial support.
For our partners, this is not just an expense or a gift. It’s their investment in their own security.
Because Ukraine’s defence means their security in the face of new wars and crises which Russia might provoke if it is successful in its war against Ukraine. So we must all work together to ensure that Russia’s aggression against our country sees no success, whether military, economic, or any other."
Earlier: On Thursday, 19 May, most US senators voted in favour of the bill to allocate almost 40 billion dollars to aid Ukraine. The bill will now be sent to the White House, where President Joe Biden is expected to urgently sign it into law.
Background: On 26 April, Serhii Marchenko, Minister of Finance of Ukraine, said that Ukraine needs at least 5 billion dollars of financial assistance a month; Ukraine is receiving at least 2 billion a month from the US to cover urgent expenses in April, May, and June.
