On the Siversk front, Russian troops continue to maintain intensified security at the Ukrainian-Russian border. They carried out a mortar attack on units of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service near the village of Bilokopytove, in Sumy Oblast.

On the Slobozhanskyi front, the invaders’ main efforts are focused on trying to hold back the offensive conducted by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

On the Kharkiv front, the Russian forces are focusing their main efforts on holding their positions and preventing Ukrainian troops from advancing. On the Sloviansk front, the Russian invaders are re-staffing, replenishing their losses, and attempting to resume the offensive.

On the Donetsk front, the Russian forces continued their assault using mortars, artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and aircraft.

On the Lyman front, the invaders undertook offensive actions near the town of Drobysheve and are reinforcing their troop units.

On the Sievierodonetsk front, the invaders suffered losses during combat action near the village of Syrotyne and retreated.

On the Bakhmut front, the Russian forces engaged in combat near the village of Vyskryva, but were not successful.

On the Avdiivka front, Russian troops engaged in fighting near the village of Kamianka, and were also unsuccessful.

On the Kurakhove front, the invaders attempted to advance on the town of Vuhledar, but were not successful.

There were no active combat operations on the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts. The Russian forces fired on civilian infrastructure around Kamianske, Orikhiv, Novosilka, and Huliaipole.

The invaders did not conduct any active combat operations on the Pivdennyi Buh front, but they shelled Ukrainian units with artillery and mortars near Lymany, Tavriiske, Trudoliubivka, and Osokorivka.

On the Bessarabia front, Russian strategic aircraft carried out a missile strike on Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion (district) of Odesa Oblast (region), damaging civilian infrastructure and residential houses.

The invaders undertook rescue operations near Zmiinyi Island [Snake Island] in the Black Sea, where a Russian landing boat was destroyed.

Over the past 24 hours, air defence units of the Ukrainian Land and Air Forces hit 5 Russian aerial targets: a Su-25 plane, 3 operational tactical UAVs, and a cruise missile.

Air Force aircraft have continued to conduct air strikes against the invaders, support Ukrainian troops’ combat operations, and patrol Ukraine’s airspace.

On the Donetsk and Luhansk fronts in the past 24 hours Ukrainian troops repelled 11 Russian attacks, destroyed 5 tanks, 1 Tor missile system, 6 artillery systems, 12 armoured combat vehicles, and a motor vehicle.

Background: An American intelligence report suggested that the Russian forces’ main goal will be to capture Sievierodonetsk rather than to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk Oblast.

Serhii Haidai, Head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, said on Monday, 16 May, that the Russian forces have once again shelled Sievierodonetsk, killing at least 10 civilians.
