"We will fight for the island as long as necessary": head of Ukrainian Chief Intelligence Directorate explains the importance of Zmiinyi (Snake) Island
The head of the Ukrainian Chief Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, has vowed that Ukraine will fight for Zmiinyi (Snake) Island for as long as it takes, as this is a strategically important point.

Details: According to Budanov, the island is of strategic importance both for Ukraine and for the Russian invaders, as it enables the control of the sea waters and, to a certain extent, the aerial situation in the south of Ukraine.
The island is also important from the point of view of the possibility of Russia launching an amphibious assault.
According to Budanov: "Whoever controls the island can block the movement of civilian vessels in all directions to the south of Ukraine at any time. Zmiinyi (snake) Island is Ukrainian territory, and we will de-occupy it and fight for it for as long as needed.
This is a strategically important point for opening sea trade routes, bringing us weapons, and excluding any possible military actions by Russia on the territory of the "Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic", from where they can attack the western part of Ukraine."
