According to Venediktova: "Today [on 7 April] the rubble of two big buildings has been cleared: 26 bodies have been found.
Borodianka is a case in point. There was no military infrastructure, none at all, but when the Russian orcs entered the city on 26-27 February, people threw Molotov cocktails or hand grenades at them. They were afraid of the local residents and got their air force to fly over this [central] street and just destroy everything within reach."
Details: The Prosecutor General reported that law enforcement officers have evidence of sexual assault and torture committed in the town of Borodianka.
Venediktova said that Borodianka is the city that has suffered the most destruction in the Kyiv region.
According to Venediktova: "It was hit by 250-kilogram high-explosive bombs, Hurricanes [guided rocket systems] and Smerches [heavy multiple rocket launchers].
At every step we find evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian Federation: near a pharmacy there was a banned cluster bomb; on the roadside, a vehicle that launches Smerch rockets, with a rocket that can travel up to 90km and brings death and destruction.
It is still difficult to say how many victims we will find here. Under the rubble of just two of the high-rise apartment buildings that were bombed, we have already found 26 bodies.
The enemy always carried out air strikes on residential infrastructure in the evenings, when most people would be at home. Their enemy was exclusively the civilian population [of Borodianka], as there is no single military facility here."
Background:
- On 2 April, the Kyiv region was liberated from the Russian troops.
- After the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the liberated villages and towns, multiple civilian deaths have been recorded. In Bucha alone, at least 400 people died during the Russian occupation; most of them were shot rather than killed in artillery fire.
- Ukraine and some other Western countries are demanding that Russia be held responsible for the war crimes committed in the Kyiv region.
- The Kremlin denies the accusations that the Russian military killed civilians in Ukraine, despite satellite image evidence.
