Zelenskyy considers new sanctions against Russia to be weak: Some politicians need to borrow some resolve

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that new sanctions against Russia are not sufficient for Russia to start seriously considering peace with Ukraine. He is calling for an embargo on Russian oil supplies.

Quote: "Western countries have announced a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. New investments in Russia are being blocked, restrictions are being applied against several systemic banks in Russia, personal sanctions are being added, as well as other restrictions. This package looks spectacular. But it is not enough.

Still it can hardly be called commensurate with the evil that the world saw in Bucha, with the evil that continues in Mariupol, with the shelling of Kharkiv, with Russia's attempt to launch a new global bloody offensive in Donbas…

We will continue to insist on a complete blockade of the Russian banking system from international finance.

We will also continue to insist on some format for the democratic world to refuse to buy Russian oil.

Oil exports are one of the foundations of Russia's aggression. One of the grounds for the Russian leadership to allow itself to be frivolous about negotiating an end to the war and the liberation of Ukrainian territory.

Some politicians are still undecided as to how to limit the flow of dollars and euros to Russia from the oil trade, so as not to jeopardise their own economies, but that is why people go into politics: to solve such problems, difficult problems. To solve them quickly and decisively.

If they are not capable of this, then they should not have opted for a career in politics.

The embargo on Russian oil supplies will still be applied. A format will be found. The only question is how many more Ukrainians, how many more Ukrainian men and women will the Russian military have time to kill, so that you, some politicians - and we know who you are - can borrow some resolve from somewhere."

Details: Zelenskyy also said the US has suspended Russia's ability to use US bank accounts and related assets to service its debt: "It's tangible, but much more needs to be done to stop the war."

It is still possible to impose the sanctions that Ukraine is insisting on, that our people are insisting on. It is also possible to give us the kind of weapons that will really stop this aggression. The West can do that."
