Ukraine may become the first country in the world to receive reparations for damage to the environment.
A mechanism is currently being developed to record and calculate the damage caused by the Russians, Acting Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, said on April 6 during a television "marathon".
"In world practice, there are almost no examples of damage to the environment as a result of hostilities.
The Cabinet of Ministers is developing mechanisms to form a general case in order to become the first country to receive compensation for losses," he said.
According to preliminary estimates, Russia has already caused hundreds of millions of hryvnias in damage to Ukraine's ecological system.
"This is damage to the air, soil, nature reserves, flora and fauna. Furthermore, few people think about the fact that the damaged invaders’ equipment is scrap metal that illegally crossed the border," said Ruslan Strilets.
