Russian troops have hit a tank containing nitric acid in Rubizhne, Luhansk region.
Source: Serhii Haidai, the Head of Luhansk Regional State Administration, on Facebook
Quote: "Do not come out of shelters!
If you are indoors, close the doors and windows!"
Details: Haidai reminded everyone that nitric acid is dangerous if inhaled or swallowed or if it comes into contact with skin and mucous membranes. He asked people to prepare wet face masks.
Reference: Nitric acid vapours cause irritation of the respiratory tract. With a low dose, there will be signs of bronchitis, mild bronchiolitis, dizziness and drowsiness; severe exposure can cause a pulmonary oedema. Gas masks are used to protect against nitric acid vapours and mists.
First aid: if nitric acid gets into the eyes, rinse them with water for 10-30 minutes. In case of contact with skin, wash the affected area with water, adding soda and soap. If nitric acid has been swallowed, gastric lavage with plenty of water is required.
